Job Overview
Seeking an experienced HVAC Test and Balance (T&B) Technician to perform field testing, adjusting, and balancing of HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort. Candidate will document results, generate reports, and coordinate with engineers, contractors, and facility staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform air and hydronic system testing, adjusting, and balancing per ASHRAE and AABC methods.
- Measure airflow, temperature, static pressure, water flow, pump/motor performance, and system control operation.
- Calibrate instruments and maintain T&B tools (anemometers, manometers, flow hoods, balometers, pitot tubes, data loggers).
- Prepare clear field reports, TAB (T&B) sheets, and final certifications.
- Troubleshoot HVAC performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Verify system sequences of operation and HVAC control integration (DDC/BMS).
- Coordinate with site teams to schedule work, access equipment, and minimize disruption.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate time, material, and progress records.
Qualifications
- 2–5+ years hands-on HVAC test & balance experience (commercial/industrial projects preferred).
- Proficient with airflow and hydronic measurement techniques and instruments.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, pumps, fans, coils, VAV, AHUs, chillers, boilers, and controls.
- Experience reading mechanical drawings, ductwork and piping layouts, and HVAC schedules.
- Ability to produce professional TAB reports and field documentation.
- Good troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- AABC, NEBB, or TABB certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- EPA 608 certification (preferred).
- OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training preferred.
- HVAC/R technical schooling or associate degree helpful.
Working Environment
Physical Requirements & Conditions
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces and at heights.
- On-site work in varying temperatures; occasional overtime and travel to project sites.
